Portugal is one of the best countries to experience retirement. Over the last few years, several magazines and websites have mentioned Portugal as a country worth visiting or moving to.

In 2018, “International Living” chose Portugal as one of the ten best countries to enjoy retirement life in 2018. For the monthly magazine, the beauty of the national territory, security and the low standard of living made Portugal the "best refuge for retirees in Europe".

Portugal ranked seventh on the list, which lists a total of 25 countries.

“International Living” also said that the city of Oporto was chosen as the best city for retired couples with an income of up to 30 thousand euros per year. The website puts Portugal's second largest city on top of five European cities, ahead of Aix-en-Provence in France or Alicante in Spain.

OFX also reminds our 10 year tax free on pensions for retirees “Portugal is also offering 10 years tax free on your pension for retirees, which is one incentive you definitely shouldn’t ignore”.
